"Tucked away in a quiet crescent behind Londons Regent Street, the fledgling business empire of Algerian-born Mourad Mazouz belongs to another in another time a little corner of England that is forever imperial North Africa. Inside the Moroccan-style caf, glamourous young Londoners, Arab and European alike, lounge on plush Berber cushions like pashas in a harem, feasting on oriental pastries. But there is no sign of Mazouz, the London-based entrepreneur better known as Momo, at Mo Antiques and Tea Shop. Not to worry, as Momos cafe is the perfect place loiter vast brass and glass lamps dangling from the ceiling, the shelves groaning beneath piles of solid silver, North African jewellry, oriental antiques and travel books. Momo embarks on buying sprees to Algeria, Morocco, Egypt, Lebanon and Turkey several times a year in search of original artifacts for the coffee shop. And everything in the cafe is for sale. The idea is that if customers want to buy the table they ate on, they are most welcome, says Enya, Momos Spanish/Algerian PA. Believe me it happens.
