The german media landscape surprised me a little this week: In recent month' a number of young girls (aged around 7 years) disappeared, some were found raped and killed, the last one a week ago. Those incidents provoked chancellor Schröder to make an exaggerated claim: "Sexual felons should be put behind bars for lifetime. There is no therapy or whatsoever for them.". The rage is understandable after such events, but it shouldn't lead to polemics and populism. And it wasn't supported by the majority of german media, most of them concluded that it lacks seriousness and can't or at least shouldn't be backed by any rather desperate measures.

Asked by one of the many dark-suited, serious Chinese executives how China could boost entrepreneurship, John responded, "Ask your children who the oddest kid is in their class. He probably looks a bit strange, and doesn't follow many of the rules. Hire him, give him a computer and an Internet connection with lots of bandwidth. And support what happens."
